SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 16.54 g, 11 h), circa 430. Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding goad in his right hand and the reins in his left; above, Nike flying left to crown the charioteer. Rev. [ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ] Head of Arethusa to right, her hair bound in a sakkos and wearing a double spiral earring and a simple necklace; at each side, two dolphins swimming towards each other. Boehringer 632 (V320/R435). Very rare and with a fine style head of Arethusa. Two die breaks on the obverse and with some cleaning marks, otherwise, very fine.
